The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process
Wisdom tooth removal can occur in one of two ways: a simple extraction or a surgical one. If the tooth is visible above the gumline, once you are numb, we may only need dental instruments to grasp it and gently move it back and forth. This continuous motion will eventually cause the tooth to detach.
If the tooth remains beneath the gumline and is pressing against nearby teeth, it must be extracted surgically. This means Dr. Steve will open the gum tissue to expose the underlying bone and tooth. He will carefully separate the tooth into smaller sections for easier removal. This also reduces the amount of trauma to the bone.
